Obituary of Iona Lillian Faulkner

Please share a memory of Iona to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our precious mother, Iona Lillian (McInnis) Faulkner, formerly of Hantsport, passed away peacefully in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, on December 28, 2020 at the age of 83. She was born January 28, 1937 in Greenfield, Kings Co., where she grew up with her parents, the late Walter and Eva (Harvie) McInnis and 11 other siblings. Iona worked proudly for CKF Inc., Hantsport for an outstanding 45 years of service. She was world-renowned for being late for everything, however, she left a little too early this time. In later years she enjoyed local jam sessions and cruising in her 1972 Plymouth Scamp that she was so proud of. She enjoyed talking to all the people offering to purchase the car on her outings. Her common phrase was, “why would they want that old car for?”, knowing full well that she would never part with it herself. Iona is survived by her three daughters, Sharron Brooks (Lew), Medicine Hat, AB; Donna Sanford (Roger), Cogmagun; Joanne O’Leary (Greg), Martock; and her favourite son, Stephen Faulkner (Maryann DeEll), Margaretsville; sister, Grace Millet (Bernie), Canning; brother, Larry McInnis, Kingston. The light of her life were her grandchildren, Jody, Shawn, Justin, Kyle, Taylor, Haley, Krista, Tamara; and great-grandchildren, twins Logan and Bentley, and twins Jaxson and Jayden. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Mark Faulkner; brother, Gilbert; sisters, Leta Mayo, Beatrice Pick, Daisy Hancock, Audrey Leighton, Vera Clowry, Flossie Bruce, Louise McInnis and an infant sister. Mom was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman that will be missed every day. A special mention to granddaughter, Haley and other Dykeland staff who were lucky enough to have spent time with this “Firecracker” during this trying year. Haley’s memories of this special lady over the past year will be forever cherished and passed on. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A private funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 5 in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Attendance is by invitation only due to current COVID-19 restrictions. A private family interment will be held at a later date in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. No flowers by request, however, donations in memory of Iona may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, 112-2719 Gladstone St., Halifax, NS B3J 4W6.
