about us

Serving families of Windsor and surrounding communities of Hants County.

Today, DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service (Lohnes-DeMont Funeral Service Ltd.) remains a family owned funeral business. We proudly maintain modern spacious facilities, including an air conditioned Chapel with seating for over 300 guests, excellent on-site parking, and the adjoining Elmcroft Reception Centre which was completed in 1998. Families can take comfort in knowing that our spacious facilities can accommodate full visitation, funeral, and reception services all under one roof, with ample parking for family and guests..

From its modest beginnings in 1922, when our founder, Mr. Ira B. Lohnes (seen below with Archie Boyd, circa 1922) first manufactured coffins from Curry's Lumber Mill in Windsor (Curry's Corner), the business has undergone many changes. Mr. Lohnes re-located the business from Curry's Corner to downtown Windsor (corner of Gerrish and Grey Streets). At that time the business was comprised of both funeral home and taxi service, recognizing that a fleet of automobiles was in great demand at the time. After the Second World War, Mr. Lohnes partnered with Mr. Al Botten and re-located the funeral home to its current location at 419 Albert Street.

In 1968, Mr. Leslie and Mrs. Faye Beazley purchased the business from Mr. Lohnes and in 1998, Paul and Barb Beazley entered the business and became the second generation of Beazley's to carry on the family business.

In August 2005, Jonathan and Emelie (Gates) DeMont purchased the funeral home from the Beazley family.
