Obituary of Shirley Primeau

Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with broken hearts that our beloved mother has since joined her angels, on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at her home in Falmouth, surrounded by her loving family, after a hard fought 18-month battle with cancer. Born on February 20, 1954, in Lourdes, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late John and Bertha (Targett) Flynn. Shirley was a great mother, who devoted all her time and energy to her children. She was a fantastic teacher, who began her career at the young age of 20 in Labrador. Teaching in Newfoundland, Labrador and Nova Scotia, she would later go on to meet the love of her life and future husband, where they would live out the rest of their lives together with their two beautiful children, Genevieve and John-Paul, settling in Nova Scotia. Her teaching career spanned over 40 years and when the time came to retire, she could not help but return to the classroom as a substitute teacher and mentor for Acadia’s future teacher program, fueled by her passion for educating. A very intelligent woman, her family encouraged her to pursue her PhD. She always declined by saying, “that would take me out of the classroom, where the real work happened.” She was incredibly beautiful inside and out, those who knew her were immediately touched by her kind and caring demeanor, with her tenacious and fiery spirit. In her down time, she loved to be out in the garden, enjoying her cup of tea, cooking with her daughter, building things with her husband and sharing deep conversations with her son. The void that she is leaving is irreplaceable and she will be sorely missed in our hearts. She is survived by her loving husband, Paul; son, John-Paul; daughter, Genevieve; sisters, Esther Flynn, Veronica Benoit, Linda Flynn; brothers, Gregory Flynn and Christopher Flynn; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, John, Hillary and Patrick Flynn; sister, Marjorie (Flynn) Farrell. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 25, from 12-5 p.m. at The Primeau Family Home, Falmouth. Pot luck style, bring photos, memories and some food, if you wish.
