We turned to Shirley and Paul at a difficult time in our lives when we needed a healing ceremony and then joined them for another healing ceremony for a friend. We found Shirley to be a very kind and caring presence just when we needed it. We are so grateful we got to know her even for a little while.

There is a saying about wonderful teachers that describes Shirley. “ A good teacher can teach you something that you will remember for a day but a great teacher will teach you something you will remember for the rest of your life.”
I had the good fortune of teaching with Shirley at Harry R. Hamilton several years ago. Not long after I started at HRH, I heard about Shirley’s approach to reading instruction. In fact, we were all encouraged to observe her, and for very good reason. She was truly a trailblazer, and in so many ways, ahead of her time. Rarely have I seen grade 2 students so engaged and invested in their reading lessons. I learned a great deal from Shirley, and admired her intelligence and dedication. She was an exceptional teacher and a wonderful colleague.
Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss, and wishing you moments of peace and comfort.

Shirley and I first taught together in Halifax City when I began my career as a Core French teacher. I remember how excited she was to be expecting her own children and what a dedicated professional she was. Later on in our careers, I was lucky enough to work with her again at Harry R Hamilton where she taught grade 2. The Principal of the school at the time suggested I observe Shirley teach English Language Arts to her students as she was a great role model and had such well organized routines. I learned so much from watching her and chatting with her. Just today, in a substitute teaching role, I used a fun little art activity Shirley used to do. My deepest condolences to Shirley's family and friends. Rest in peace, Shirley!

Although I didn’t know her well, our years with the Windsor Bluefins watching our kids do their thing, I remember her kindness to everyone, her smile when her children did well, her encouragement to all the swimmers. A wonderful person inside and out! She is a special angel who will be so missed by her family.

Dear Paul, I saw Shirley‘s obituary today. I remember her from our Henry House days. I knew back then how much you loved her. I could see from the obituary the love story continued, and continues in your children. She was beautiful inside and out. You were blessed. Sending thoughts and quiet reflections. PS Your Henry House sculpture remains in a prominent place in our home. I will think of you and Shirley when I look at it.

To the family of Shirley Primeau, I send my deepest sympathies. I was shocked and saddened to learn of Shirley's passing. She was a beautiful person inside and out - what a radiant smile to light up a room. With Shirley's beaming face, caring manner, and skill as a teacher, no wonder her students loved her. I knew Shirley back in the days of the former Halifax District School Board when we were both part of the tight knit team of elementary core French teachers. Please take comfort from the kind thoughts and sincere prayers of others who share in your grief. Cynthia Pilichos

Oh Genevieve, I’m so terribly sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing…
I have walked that same valley of tears, and understand only too well the heart-wrenching sorrow. All we can do is lean on one another: sharing hugs, tears, memories and the bedrock legacy of values and emotions which our loved ones built in us with every meal, conversation and experience, whether laughter or difficult to process.
I send you, Jamie and your entire family my heartfelt condolences.
