* Updated service details below * It is with sadness that we the family of Donnie Nelson announce his passing on Saturday, June 12, 2021 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, after a lengthy illness. Born on October 14, 1967, he was a son of George and Marion Nelson. From an early age, Donnie had a passion for helping others, first by learning to take things apart and then as he grew up, by helping to put things back together. He enjoyed the outdoors, whether it be fishing and hunting, four wheeling or flying RC planes and drones. He also participated in many other activities. He and Paula spent many weekends camping at Forevergreen Campground, enjoying time with old friends and family and making new friends while they celebrated his favourite holidays of Halloween and Christmas, in the Summer. Donnie loved to spend time with his family and worked at the family business, Heritage Memorials, from the time he was a teenager until he became ill. He is survived by parents, George and Marion; partner, Paula; children, Gordon Gilbert (Nadia) and Katrina Hines (Jon); stepchildren, Courtney Strong, Melissa Parker and Amber Berringer; brother, Steven (Pauline); sisters, Susan (Marty) and Gwen (Ray); eight grandchildren that he dearly loved, Grace, Gabriella, Danika, Dawson, Kristen, Alex, Damian and Sophia, along with a large extended family. Special thanks to Dr. Paige Stevens, Palliative Care Nurse, Amber Phillips, the VON and all nursing staff on the Unit 200 at Hants Community Hospital. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17 in Royal Canadian Legion, Empire Lane, Windsor, Celebrant Bob DeMont officiating. COVID-19 event capacity is 150.
