I can still hear Donnie call with deliveries and I was always happy to hear Donnie as I knew we were in good hands! He always sounded so upbeat and nothing seemed to be a problem. I had the pleasure of working with Donnie for many years , he was very crafty and could do anything and would go out of his way to help . Over the years we became more than coworkers we became good friends and he would join us on camping trips and made sure everyone had a sip of his shine . I am so very sorry for the Nelson family loss. I have frequently spoke of the fond memories I have of being at the Nelson home as a young child when Gwen and I played together. And Donnie and I catching eels (he taught me how) with our bare hands in the creek behind your home. And the time we found the big snapping turtle! Those were such fun times.

It is with great sadness that I offer my deepest condolences to the Nelson Families on the loss of Donnie. I had the pleasure on occasion to work with Donnie when he would bring a load to Nfld and seeing him when I went there at Christmas. He always had a smile and was always the one to ask if I needed anything done before he left to head back to Nova Scotia. He was a very giving and helpful person and someone who was quite easy to work with. I will always remember his smile and friendliness. He would help in anyway he could he even told me once what to put on my flowers and even gave me samples of products he had one summer when I was there. He teased me that he was going to call the airlines and tell them they should check my bags because what he gave me was white powder in a plastic bag. We had a good laugh and I was frightened to death going through the airport when I got back he called me to see that I got home ok, we laughed and I said I would have died had they took me aside. I will certainly miss seeing him when I go there. Rest in Peace dear Donnie.

I was shocked to read of Donnie’s passing. Then I realized that you are feeling the same pain we felt just three years ago. A partner, son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend taken much too soon and way too young.

Such a heartbreaking time. I will always remember Uncle Donnie and the man who loved his family. Family always came first for him.
I will always remember him teaching Katrina and I how to make birdhouses in his wood shop. Our trip to Colorado, even though he was terrified of heights, making us go up at least one mountain. Sending Mum photos of us hanging off the mountain just because we knew she would be be scared of us falling! His hats and of course his double double coffee.
I am so thankful he was able to meet his Great Nephew. It will be a moment I cherish every day.
He has done so much for me over the years. I am so grateful for him.

Donnie always impressed me with not only his wiry strength, but his smarts as it related to working with stone. I fondly remember our trip to Maine to add lettering to a fire dept. memorial we did there. I remember saying to him...Donnie I hope you know what you're doing because I haven't sandblasted in years. We got there and he had the stencil on, letters picked, sandblasting done & paint matched before the truck even cooled off. I enjoyed working with him on that and numerous other occasions. He was a good man! Please accept my sincere condolences.
