It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Shirley on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Bissett Court Nursing Home, Dartmouth; at the age of 99, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was born on November 19, 1921 in Poplar Grove and was a daughter of the late Newton and Myrtle (McCullum) Hanes.

 

Mom was a member of the United Church of Windsor and an adherent of Windsor Baptist Church. She was also a long-time member of the Windsor Fire Department Auxiliary. In her down time, Mom enjoyed gardening and quilting.

 

Mom is survived by her children, Gilbert Jr.; Daniel (Michelle); Gail Church; Dana Harvey (Janet Chassman) and Roxanna (John) Hall; grandchildren, Jill (Jim) Garrison and Damon (Delores) Harvey, Denine Wrixon, Jacob Hall and Elizabeth Church; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Wrixon-Wood, Lukis Harvey and Sienna Garrison.

 

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert; grandson, Michael; granddaughter, Janet Wrixon; brothers, Alfred and Donald Hanes and sister, Marguerite Hanes.

 

We her children, would like to say thank you to the staff and doctors of Bissett Court for the wonderful care that they all provided to our mother during her stay there.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A private funeral service will be held Saturday, February 13 in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Attendance is by invitation only due to current COVID-19 restrictions. A webcast of the service will be available on the funeral home website starting at 12:55 p.m., February 13. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Family flowers only, by request.
