I wanted to send along a memory of Shirley....
When I went to work at Haliburton House Museum, Shirley was a valued visitor. She had worked at the site and had so much information. Never impatient with me, but full of stories, tidbits of history, and laughter. Many times you could hear the giggling of Dolly, Doris and Shirley. Some of those memories were of the locals, or town history, or even the county.
I learned so much from them all.
Shirley with the sparkling eyes and infectious smile who loved to walk and visit....
I am pretty sure she is directing the 'visitors' through the hallways of Heaven as she imparts some history of the realm.... Along with dear Dolly of course...

Dear Gilbert, Danny, Gail, Dana, Roxanna and Families-
I was so sorry to read in the Chronicle Herald that Shirley had passed away. 99 - what a grand age.
I first got to know your mum and dad when Lewis & I were so lucky that Shirley agreed to baby sit our daughter Nancy from the time she was three years old until she started school in Sept. of 1971. We had no worries when Nancy was in your mother's care. Nancy loved your mother and called her "Mum, Mum, Church" and I know she enjoyed each one of you. You were like the brothers and sisters she never had.
Moving to Falmouth and working full time, over the following years, we didn't get to see your mother that often and gradually lost touch. Lewis passed away in 2009 and Nancy in 2018.
Your mother was a lovely, kind, warm, lady and always greeted us with such a friendly smile. She will always have a special place in my heart. I feel so lucky to have known her and blessed for such a wonderful lady to have been a role model for my daughter.
Thinking of you with loving thoughts and sincere deepest sympathy.

Please accept my deepest condolences on the death of your beloved mother, Shirley. I was privileged to have her as my neighbour from 1970 to 1992, and have very fond memories of her kindness to me and my whole family. I can still remember answering my doorbell to find Shirley standing there with an armload of her rhubarb! Gilbert was just as kind and thoughtful, especially when it came to snow removal. Roxie was our babysitter and Dana taught two of my three children. I share with the whole family their sorrow at her passing.
