Obituary of Edith Marguerite Purdy
Please share a memory of Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Edith, at the age of 91, on Friday, June 19, 2020, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born on May 26,1929 in Lunenburg, she was a daughter of the late Fenton and Mildred (Miller) Herman.
While in Secretarial school in Halifax, she met her sailor husband, George Purdy from Cataraqui, Ont. They were married in Lunenburg in 1950. Early in her life, Edith worked at People's Credit Jewelers in Halifax, was a long-time employee of IGA and a devoted wife and mother whose children meant everything to her. Edith was a life-long member of Windsor United Church and a long-time member of the UCW, the Hants Community Hospital Auxiliary and the former IODE. She was an avid reader, scrabble player and loved to knit. Edith and George enjoyed travelling with their son, Alan and daughter-in-law, Josephine. Her happiest times were spent with her family and church friends. Large family gatherings for any occasion brought her such joy. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandsons dearly.
Edith is survived by daughters, Karen (Dennis), Michele (David), Pamela (Phillip), all of Sackville; son, Alan of Scarborough, Ont; grandchildren, Melissa (Richard), Adam (Mark), Tabitha (Sean), Emily, Mark and Matthew; great-grandsons, Brendan, Cameron, Aidan, Evan, Nolan, Elliott and Asher.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, George; a sister in infancy and daughter-in-law, Josephine.
Edith spent the last year and a half as a resident of Dykeland Lodge in Windsor and we are forever grateful for their care and compassion for our mother.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a private funeral service will be held with Rev. David Hann officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor.
