I just heard about your Mum! My heart sunk.
Sooooo many memories: peanut butter sandwiches after school, her laugh, the cleanest house on the block!, The hugs. I am so happy she was part of my life.

So very sorry to hear of Edith’s passing. She and George were wonderful neighbors. My granddaughter Rianna loved them and would watch to see if they were in their lovely garden. Edith was a beautiful person and she will be missed.

,Dear Purdy Family,
We were so sorry to read of Edith's passing. We moved into the former Woodburn property on August 28,1982 and the first neighbours that were met were Edith and George. They made us feel so very welcome to Albert Street.
So very often my children played in our big back yard and if they wondered over the imaginary property line and I called them back in I knew I would get a call or visit from Edith telling me that my children were welcome in her yard!
We would watch your parents working day after day on the raspberry canes and then we would get a beautiful big bowl of berries fresh off the bush. Betty used to take care of the cat when your mom went away, she used to laugh that Edith was the only person she knew who loved her cat enough to cook a full salmon for the time she was away.
When your dad passed away we tried to include your mom in our trips to the post office and grocery stores, she was always so glad to have the help.
I am sure that you will miss your mother, a kinder Christian friend we have never had is now reuinited with George.
Sincerely
Margaret,Betty and Vivian

Not many kids are lucky enough to know or even remember their great grandparents. I on the other hand was lucky enough to have known both of my great grandparents. I remember as a little boy being at gatherings for christmas and easter with the entire family, exploring the home with my cousins, and younger brother Cameron. I will never forget finding your old dolls in the attic and how they scared me as a young child! Or the smell of your apple pie and turkey dinner on the holidays.
I remember when i was about 13 or 14 a bunch of us (my grand parents Dennis and Karen and my mother Melissa) had gone to the public gardens in halifax, and we ended up getting seperated from the other three so we just wandered around the gardens, you had all kinds of stories and things to tell me about halifax when you were my age. I remember we sat down for a bit in hopes we would find the others in the gardens and i convinced you to take your first selfie with me, i wish i still had that photo or even the phone to recover it.
My Great Grandmother, Edith Purdy raised an amazing family, and i am privileged to know every single one of them. We have all shared countless memories with you and will miss you dearly.

Hi Pam, Michelle, Karen and Allan,
My sister Liz told me last evening about your Mom's passing. "Mrs. Purdy" (to me), was like a second mother since Pam and I spent so many years together as best friends. I was telling someone about your Mom the other day and about the bottomless pitcher of lemonade that she used to make every summer. It brings back very fond memories of great times spent on Albert Street! Kindest regards, Andrea

Dear Allan and family, so sorry to hear of Edith’s passing. I enjoyed the time I spent with her so much. She would get such delight in using up all the letters . Some days the words were small, and other days. She would amaze you with her vocabulary. I have missed her and thought of her many times during the lockdown. She is on to her heavenly rest now.
Take care, and thank you for your putting your trust in me.

Dear Karen, Michele, Pamela & Alan-
So sorry to read in the Chronicle Herald this morning that your mother has passed away.
I have known both your mum and dad, through our Church family, since moving to Windsor in 1964. What wonderful people and such good workers in our Church. So many good memories - sitting together in the same pew at Windsor United, Edith & I being together in the same U.C.W. group and many years ago going to your home on Albert Street having your mum and Dad teaching Lewis (Forbes) & I how to play Rummoli.
Edith was always interested in what was going on in your life and in turn, when asked, loved to tell about her own family - she was so proud of you. Such a nice, kind, lovely lady who will be greatly missed.
Peter joins me in sending our sincere sympathy and loving thoughts.
Karen

Karen, thanks so much for your kind words and thoughts about Mom and Dad. They liked nothing better than to have visitors to their home, whether for UCW meetings or to entertain friends and family. Mom was always on the go of course, rarely sitting still for long.

To all the Purdy Family:
We had the pleasure of being Edith and George's neighbors. We enjoyed lots of funny stories watching our kids grow up to be wonderful adults. We miss your parents.. We wondered just this week how Edith was doing.
They would love 'all the noise of children playing"..there own home is quiet but Dr. Smith's is a buzz....a hugh above ground swimming pool...sounds like two familes 'bubbled'..All we see are trees but the sounds of 'life going on".
Take care and know your parents are thought of often and were loved.
Dolena and Keith

She was such a good friend of my mother (Shirley Hennigar) and I shared many Tims lunches with the two of them with scrabble following. I think of her often as when she and your Dad were working in back of their home thinning out the bushes she gave me a tiny slip of their chestnut tree and it is now a very stunning tree the nicest on my property. She was so happy and proud of her home and her family.Take care and be comforted that she lived a good life with lots of family and friends who loved her. Sheila.

Sheila, thanks so much for your kind words and memories. Mom would often tell me about her walks with Shirley around town and across the causeway. They would often end with an ice cream, or a donut and tea at Tims. I had the pleasure of meeting your mother and getting to know her. She was a lovely lady and such a good friend to Mom. Safe to say their friendship brought so much joy to each of their lives.

What an incredible person Edith was! She had such a zest for life. Her family was her everything, and her dedication to her church, and to our Unit 4 at Windsor United will never be forgotten. I loved her embroidery work, and will always treasure her pillowcases which I placed on my pillows this past week.
The last time I visited Edith at Dykeland she was sitting knitting in her chair. Not a stitch out of place.
I will miss her, but her memories will always be apart of me.
