Obituary of Elsie Evans

Elsie passed away peacefully on February 7, 2020 at Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. Born in 1909 in Sunderland, England, she was the only child of George and Ada Stephenson. She immigrated to Canada in 1923 with her parents and resided in Toronto. In 1936 she married John Evans and they moved to Moncton, NB. In 1954 they settled in Windsor, where they owned and operated John Evans Jewellery Store. Elsie is survived by twin daughters, Karen (Lyall Workman) of Bismarck, ND; and Brenda Hare (Robert Daniels) of Windsor; grandsons, Andrew (Courtney) Workman, Jamestown, ND; and Mark (Nicole) Hare, Dartmouth; and great-granddaughters, Sullivan and Lennon Workman. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John, in 1978; his only sister, Lillian, in 1985; and her son-in-law, Willard Hare in 2002. Elsie was a faithful member of Windsor United Church, the United Church Women and Hants Community Hospital Auxiliary. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist. The family wishes to extend a huge thank you to the girls and staff at Windsor Elms Village for their loving care of Elsie during the last six years. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation. The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2 p.m. Windsor United Church, 613 King St., Windsor, with Rev. David Hann officiating, assisted by Rev. Bill Gibson. A reception will be held in the Church Annex following the service. A private family interment will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Hants Community Hospital Foundation, 89 Payzant Dr., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0, Windsor United Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 2037, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 or charity of choice.
