Obituary of Alton Noell "Al" Terfry

Please share a memory of Alton to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Age 82, of Amherst, formerly of Windsor and Truro. Sadly, we announce the passing of Al, which occurred Monday, July 22, 2019 at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, following a lengthy period of failing health.

Born in Summerville, he was the second of five sons born to the late Charles and Leora (Ogilvie) Terfry. Following his formal education, Al chose to become a licensed electrician which took him to many parts of the province, his last employer being the Federal Government, Department of Public Works, retiring in 1995.

Al loved “the Valley” and everything it offered – the climate, scenic beauty, its bounty, the water and all things boats. Many happy hours were spent on or near the Avon River. He was always happy to share the wonders of this place with visitors. The best tour guide ever!

In his younger years, Al enjoyed sharing his God-given singing voice and was a member of a barbershop chorus. Al was a proud and active member of the Masonic Order, serving as Past Master, Shore Lodge No. 134, Past Master, Poyntz No. 44, Hantsport, Past District Deputy Grand Master, Hants District, year 1990-1991 and a member of the Philae Temple Shriners.

Al is survived by his wife, Helen (McManaman) Terfry; stepsons, Stephen Burke, Amherst; David (Holly) Burke, Fort Lawrence; son, Lt. Col. (Ret’d) James (Emma) Terfry, Kingston, ON; granddaughter, Nicole Burke and great-granddaughter, Zoey, Sackville, NB; two step-grandsons, Callum and Ryan, Kingston, ON; several nieces and nephews; brothers, James, Harold (Marg), Wayne (Ginny), and Richard “Dick” (Colleen).

Special thanks to the palliative care team. Dr. Short, Amy Faulkner and the VON.

Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a public Masonic tribute and funeral service celebrating Al’s life will be held Saturday, July 27 at 11:00 a.m., Freemasons and Rev.
