Obituary of Joan Charlotte Boyd

Age 81, of Windsor, formerly of Union Corner, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 11, 2019. Born December 27, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. “Buds” and H. Jean (Hunter) Hazel.

Joan was an LPN and trained at Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. She worked for a number of years at Hants Community Hospital, where she studied for her diploma in Electrocardio Technology. Besides her nursing she thoroughly enjoyed music and she played the piano for 12 years for the Newport Male Choir and played for the Scotch Village Baptist Church. In her spare time Joan also enjoyed playing around with photography. Most importantly of all, Joan loved her family life the most.

She is survived by sons, Dwight and Adrian; grandchildren, Melissa, Josh, Elisha, Morgan, Jayson and Abbey; several great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Sexton and Gwendolyn Barrett.

Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her loving husband, Roland “Rollie” Boyd (2018); daughter-in-law, Ann Timmins; brother, Robert “Bob” Hazel.

Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert Street, Windsor (902-798-8317).  A funeral service celebrating Joan’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 22 in the DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Rick Manuel officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. A private family interment will take place in Windsor Forks Community Cemetery.
