Obituary of William "Bill" "Frank" Francis Power

Please share a memory of William "Bill" "Frank" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bill, on Saturday, May 12, 2018 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, at age 75. Bill formally resided in Granville Ferry prior to moving to Windsor. Born in North Sydney on May 3 1943, he was a son of the late William and Frances (LeRoy) Power.

Bill is survived by wife, Heather; daughter, Maegan (Capt. Aaron Noble) and grandson, Myles. He is lovingly remembered by his siblings and their families, Mike (Gail), Agnes (Murray) Slaunwhite and Kevin (Penny), as well as sister-in-law, Rosemarie Stack, and her family. He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth; nephew, Trevor and niece, Diane.

Bill excelled in his academic endeavors obtaining a degree in engineering from Saint Francis Xavier in 1963 before exploring more applied opportunities at both Technical University of Nova Scotia in Halifax and College of Geographic Sciences (COGS) in Lawrencetown. As a faculty member, Bill spent more than 20 years at COGS and the Middleton NSCC campuses, where he influenced young minds and shaped the futures of students as a computer sciences instructor. “Frank” as he was known to his family, enjoyed woodworking, photography, and second-hand clothes shopping. Widely and deeply read, he was a spirited conversationalist across a daunting range of subjects. His knowledge, skill-set, perspective and presence will certainly be missed.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his caregivers of the past several years, Agnes and Murray, in addition to his personal care worker, Lindsay and the wonderful nursing staff at Hants Community Hospital

Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert Street, Windsor (902-798-8317), where Father Paul MacIntosh will offer words of comfort in the funeral home’s chapel at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 17. A time of fellowship with the family will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre until 4 p.m. Burial will take place in North Sydney at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Hants Community Hospital, 89 Payzant Dr., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0.
