Excerpts from the Eulogy delivered on May 17, 2018.
On behalf of our family I want to thank you for joining us to say goodbye to our dear brother William (Bill/Frank).
As discussed in the many conversations that we have had and ones that will be shared during this celebration of his life, Uncle Frank was a man of many skill sets and interests.
He was an academic, a skilled wood-worker, a loving father, husband, brother, uncle, friend, teacher, historian and not to be lost; a bargain shopper (especially when it came to yard sales or visits to second-hand boutiques across the province).
My earliest childhood memories of Frank are of a wise man that used our limited visiting time together to reinforce the importance of education, showing off his newest computer game or gadget, having a sharp sense of humour and being a fantastic uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. I always remember the trips to Mic Mac Mall ending with a hobby model, plastic soldier set or some obscure item from the it novelty store.
Let’s be clear, he had just as much fun as we did with those toys once we got home!!!
The visits to Granville Ferry to see him, our cousin Meagan and Aunt Heather were always ones to remember. Getting a history lesson about Fort Ste Anne, touring their beautiful home and hearing all about his newest adventure stand out.
Frank’s love of conversation and debate was evident and enjoyable. However, if you had an alternate perspective this could mean a lengthy education and awareness campaign led by him, but the end was always the same, mutual respect and when appropriate, a sip of scotch.
I wonder what conversations are happening now with his sister Ruth, nephew Trevor, Niece Dianne and his beloved parents. If we could only be a fly on the wall!
Frank’s battle with cancer was not a short or easy one. He fought for over 10 years accepting every option or intervention that he was offered. His will to live was profound. I believe that’s because Frank loved what life offered him and I believe he wanted to see every minute of what was yet to come. A rapidly changing world filled with technological advancements, new family additions, another Dylan song or conversation with his family and friends.
Frank will be missed by many. He will be missed by his wife Heather and Daughter Meagan, by his brother Mike and Mike’s wife Gail, Sister Agnes and her husband Murray, Brother Kevin and his wife Penny, sister in-law Rosemarie all of his nieces/nephews, great nieces & nephews, friends, and former colleagues to name a few. To the LeBlanc family we grieve with you and know that Bill has a special place in your hearts and that he will never be forgotten.
At this point I want to acknowledge and speak to the special relationship Frank had with my parents Agnes and Murray over the recent past. Together you have been though a very difficult journey. Mom, let your heart and mind rest easy knowing that you did everything you could to make his final years as good as they could be. He is looking down on you now with a big smile, loving eyes and gratitude.
I want to leave you now with quote from one of Frank’s favourite musicians Bob Dylan:
When you're standing at the crossroads that you cannot comprehend
Just remember that death is not the end
And all your dreams have vanished and you don't know what's up the bend
Just remember that death is not the end
Frank, thank you for everything you brought to our families and let your next journey be one filled with peace, love and amazing journeys in uncharted lands.
May you rest in eternal peace.
