It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Samuel Lee "Sam" Schurman, age 52, of Hantsport, Hants Co., on Friday, February 21, 2014 at home. Sam was a loving husband, son, stepfather, and brother. Born on March 26, 1961, he was a son of Earle Morton Schurman and the late Patricia Helen (Turner) Schurman.He was working as a Millwright at CKF Inc., Hantsport where he was employed for more than 27 years. In his youth, he was a Cub Scout and enjoyed riding his pony and ski-doo. In later years, and up to his death, he loved sailing out of Chester and did metalwork from his shop at home.Besides his father, Earle (Myrtle), Mt. Denson; he is survived by his wife, Lynn Marie (MacDonald), Hantsport; brother, Morton "Mort" Schurman, Hants Border; sisters, Beverley (Peter) Croft, New Minas; Amanda (Tom) McReynolds, Victoria, B.C.; step-daughter, Vanessa (Derrick) MacDonald, Dartmouth; step-son, Nathan MacDonald, Hantsport; grandchildren, Xavier, Bella and Sicily, Dartmouth; father in-law, Harold (Kay) MacDonald, Bridgewater; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides his mother, he was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Amos and Mary (Redden) Schurman and maternal grandparents, Tom and Rita (Palmer) Turner.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A memorial reception will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 26 at the Hantsport Fire Hall, 5 Oak St., Hantsport. A graveside service will be held at a later date. No flowers by family request. Donations in memory of Sam may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5657 Spring Garden Rd., Box 245, Halifax, NS B3J 3R4.
