Obituary of Walter John Forrest
***Please note date and time change for the funeral service***
Walter was born in Halifax, January 17th, 1945 and went to sleep on December 7th, 2024 and joined the love of his life, Sandra, without telling a soul. Never to be separated again.
Walter grew up in North end Halifax where he graduated high school, then went on to vocational school where he obtained his electrical certificate and worked in the trade at the Department of National Defence until his retirement in 1997 at the early age of 52.
Walter would never be bored, hanging around the house with Sandra, camping, long drives to visit family and friends tracking every kilometre and sharing the distance travelled after reaching his destination.
Walter was known best as a man of God who shared his faith and love for his family with anyone who would listen. His special gift of remembering birthdays and calling his birthday friends on their special day will be missed.
After the passing of his beloved wife Sandra on February 4th, 2001, he wrote poems about his love for her and made copies to share with everyone he knew and a few strangers.
He spent many years after as a loyal companion to Vera Hashem, taking her on road trips and caring for her until her passing on April 19, 2021.
Walter was a humble man and loved sharing his time with the residents of Dykeland Lodge and the Windsor Elms. He was presented with the volunteer of the year award that was read in the Nova Scotia Legislature on April 23, 2015.
In 2019, Walter joined the Beaver Bank community where he continued to share his talent of remembering birthdays and adding to his ten thousand plus list that would keep him busy calling while he was isolated through the covid pandemic.
Walter was predeceased by his wife, Sandra (Snow) Forrest; father, Albert Walter; mother, Florance Nellie (Marshall); brother, Kenneth and a sister in infancy.
Walter is survived by his brother, Deryck, Hope, B.C.; sister, Gwendolyn (Neil) Cooper; sister-in-law, Patsy; sons, Walter John Jr. (Elizabeth), Halifax; Wayne (Darlene), Lockhartville; Wyatt (Rebecca), Beaver Bank; daughter, Denise (John) Shanks, Woodville; grandchildren, Andrew Forrest, Hannah (Zack) Coleman, Cassandra (Hunter) Lively, Sarah (Justin) Harrison, Nathan Shanks, Rachel Forrest, Justin Shanks, Lauryn Forrest, Jordan Forrest, Noah Forrest, Sophie Forrest, Kayley Shanks, Magen Lake, Melissa Lake, Mandi Lake, Dylan Shanks, Isaac Forrest, Aaron Forrest, Ellen Forrest and eight great-grandchildren.
