MORISON, John Howard "Jack" - 94, of Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Sunday, March 17, 2013 in the DVA Unit at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Curry’s Corner, Hants Co., he was the eldest child of the late Percy and Georgie (Caldwell) Morison.In his younger life he was an avid hockey player. Jack served in the R.C.A.F as an air gunner from 1939-1945. He was shot down over Germany and was the only survivor becoming a prisoner of war in Poland, Stalag 8B, enduring the death march in 1945 from Poland to Germany. After returning from active duty he attended Acadia University obtaining an engineering certification. Jack was a loyal alumni of Acadia University for the remainder of his life. Jack was employed by the Nova Scotia Department of Highways. He spent his retired years in Windsor, enjoying the camaraderie of his fellow veterans, throughout the remainder of his life.Jack is survived by his brother, Bruce (Frances); sisters, Helen (Jim) Wilcox; Peggy Darroch; nieces, Heather (Bruce) Wellwood, Barb (Mike) Hughes, Jennifer (Joey) O’Brien, Ann (Tony) Brown, Kathy (Jim) O’Donnell, Susan (Barry) Bleakley, Janet Corey, Sally (Chris) Gallow; nephews, Jim Wilcox (Deborah Parker), David (Shirley) Darroch, Paul (Bebe) Darroch, Mark Morison (Angela Wood). Jack was predeceased by sister, Barbara Howard; brother in law, Bob Howard.Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where the funeral service will take place 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Private family burial will take place at a later date in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor.
