Obituary of Dennis Richard Cochrane

Please share a memory of Dennis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with sadness we share that on Friday, March 17, 2023, Dennis Cochrane of Brooklyn, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family in Hants Community Hospital at the age of 75. Dennis was born in Windsor, to the late George “Toot” and Margaret (Cochrane) Cochrane.

Dennis attended Windsor Regional High School. After school he began working at Boyd’s Transfer delivering groceries around Windsor and thus began his trucking career. He worked for Valley Transfer and Archie’s Bottle Exchange before becoming a business partner and co-owner of Elmsdale Recycling until his retirement.

He was known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor, never missing an opportunity to engage in a battle of wits with his brothers and sister. He seldom went without the last word in those times, leaving everyone in fits of laughter. That is the father, brother and grandfather we’ll remember.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Susan; daughter, Tracey (Sherri); son, Jason (Angela); grandson, Jayden. He is also survived by brothers, Andy (Jill) and Doug (Michelle); sister-in-law, Sharon (David); brother-in-law, Barry; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Krista; father-in-law, Harold; and mother-in-law, Daisy.

We are sincerely grateful to Dr. Cathyrn Smith and the nursing staff at Hants Community Hospital as well as the staff on unit 3A MICU and 5B at the VG Hospital in Halifax for their compassion and care.

We would also like to express our gratitude and appreciation to the Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department for responding so quickly and effectively when called upon.  Their unwavering kindness and patience were greatly appreciated by our family.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). In keeping with Dennis’ wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Donations in memory of Dennis may be made to Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 136, Newport, NS B0N 2A0, where he proudly served his community as a firefighter and captain for many years, and was a proud veteran member, or a charity of your choice.
