Obituary of Mary Catherine White

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

63, Falmouth and formerly of Charlottetown, PEI. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Cathy, at home, on Thursday, January 12, 2023 with Kevin and Ben at her side. Cathy was a daughter of the late Stirling and Gladys (Doyle) Squarebriggs.

Faced by many medical challenges in life, she developed a positive resilience and confident independence in her character. She brought that character with dedication and commitment as Administrator of Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia for 33 years. Because she was a highly organized person, lists were her mantra as she organized work, home and our family. She was the “go to” family person to organize us and for her Mom, Dad and siblings as they might require.

Cathy loved cooking and particularly enjoyed trying out new recipes - we enjoyed eating them all. Cathy loved our dogs over the years, but developed a special affinity with our current dog, Tucker, who misses Mom greatly. As much as she was not shy about her opinions or actions, she was a reserved person socially. Even so, she was a loyal and strong friend to those she bonded with. She shared a close connection with her sister, Nora, talking every day.

Survived and lovingly missed by husband, Kevin; son, Ben; sister, Nora Nelson, Stratford, PEI; brothers, John, Kingston, Ont.; Allan (Kathy), North Mountain; Bobby (Mary Ellen), Miramachi, NB; sisters-in-law, Carroll Collins (Jim Isenor), Lantz; Lynda (Graham) Hodder, St. Croix; Jane Squarebriggs, Kingston, Ont.; brothers-in-law, David (Kathryn) White, Lower Sackville; Wayne Foy, Onslow; numerous nieces, nephews and other family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Cindy Foy; brothers-in-law, Henry Collins and Rick Nelson.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where visitation will be held Thursday, January 19, from 6-8 pm (masks are encouraged). A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 20 at Windsor United Church, 613 King Street, Windsor (masks are encouraged), Rev. David Hann officiating. A reception will follow in the Church Annex. A private family interment will occur at a later time in Centre Falmouth Cemetery. Flowers welcome. Donations in memory of Cathy may be made to Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, Windsor (www.mermaidtheatre.ca), or Kidney Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Branch (www.kidney.ca) or a charity of one’s choice.
