Obituary of Sharon Kathleen Benedict
The family of Sharon Benedict, of Curry’s Corner, are saddened to announce her passing on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on December 4, 1943, in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Frederick “Raymond” and Kathleen Agnes (Baxter) Benedict.
Sharon worked for the Nova Scotia Textiles Ltd. for 43 years in a variety of capacities. In early years she worked in the factory as a machine operator, folder and inspector, supervisor and for the last 15 years of her career as the manager of the retail outlets. She was a member of the Windsor and District Labour Council and also Past President of Local 159 United Textile Workers of America. In this role, she attended the Atlantic Regional Labour Education Centre (ARLEC) at St. FX University to study social action and develop skills as a unionist to further the cause of improved worker conditions.
She was a graduate of Miss Murphy’s Business College and a community volunteer for many years, including as a Pathfinder Leader and a member of the Three Mile Plains Community Hall Association.
Sharon adored her three grandchildren, who affectionately called her G-Ma and was her happiest when spending time with them. She loved beach visits, day trips with family and friends, painting, daily coffee visits with dear friend, Clara and weekly bingo nights with her nephew, Joey. Sharon enjoyed seeing new places and was lucky to have taken her dream trip to Alaska when she retired.
She is survived by daughters, Shelda (Derek) Cochrane, Bedford and Robin Benedict, Falmouth; grandchildren, Alexander Cochrane, Halifax, Mackenzie Cochrane, Bedford and Aidan Cochrane, Bedford; sisters, Patricia Dearman, Windsor; Dawn (Curtis) McCulloch, Three Mile Plains; brothers, Gerald (Debbie) Benedict, Curry’s Corner; Brian (Vera) Benedict, Curry’s Corner and Lynn (Carol) Benedict, Three Mile Plains.
In addition to her parents, Sharon was predeceased by sisters, Andrea Benedict, Marilyn Symms and Gloria Gormley and brother, Gary Benedict.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Friday, October 14 in the Three Mile Plains Community Hall, 4474 Hwy 1, Three Mile Plains from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.
