Obituary of Lyman R. Shanks

SHANKS, Lyman Reid - 62, of Three Mile Plains, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Halifax Infirmary, QE II, after having a massive cerebral hemorrhage on Boxing Day. Born in Windsor on October 8, 1950, Lyman was the oldest child of Reid and Alice (Kelley) Shanks.Lyman was an avid golfer, dart enthusiast and enjoyed a good game of cards and will be missed by many who shared these activities with him. He was a staunch Leafs fan. He worked in the family business, Reid J. Shanks Ltd. for many years and then worked with the Department of Transportation on the survey crew until his retirement in 2010. He enjoyed his retirement spending summers at the cottage and golfing. The winters provided him with much enjoyment feeding the birds and watching their activity through his always present binoculars.Besides his parents, Lyman is survived by his spouse of 24 years, Wanda (Lantz) MacArthur; stepdaughter, Amy (Ben) Hunter; son, Troy Simpson and his wife Sonja; and grandchildren, Reid and Norah; sisters, Deborah Shanks, Marsha (Barrie) Ellis and Gloria Shanks; niece, Kelley Cox, nephews, Cameron Cox, Brad Ellis and Jim Ellis. Lyman was predeceased by a sister, Denise Kutsche and stepson, Mike MacArthur.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service (Lohnes-DeMont Funeral Service Ltd.), 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors from 6-8 pm Monday, December 31. Funeral service will take place 2 pm Tuesday, January 1, 2013 in the funeral home chapel, Rev. Tom Henderson officiating. Interment will be held in Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Lyman may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
