Obituary of Ruth Virginia Joudrey

Age 93, formerly of Hantsport, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 9, 2022 in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born on March 27, 1928 in Wileville, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Greta (Wile) Lohnes. Ruth taught school at the age of 17 on Bush Island for one year, where she met her future husband, Arnold. She and Arnold married in September of 1946 at the age of 18. They travelled to the Annapolis Valley by train to pick apples for their honeymoon then returned home to the LaHave Islands. They moved to Hantsport in 1954. From September 1961 to January 1967 Ruth worked for the Annapolis Valley Canners in Port Williams. In March 1967 she started work at CKF Inc. where she remained until she retired in April 1993, after 26 years. She enjoyed knitting, walking her dog, Beethoven, collecting mugs, going to yard sales and visiting her family members on Holidays. She loved the colour red and flashy clothing. Ruth also enjoyed camping at Oakhill Pines in Lunenburg County with Arnold, until his passing. After Arnold passed, she enjoyed several trips to PEI with different family members. She is survived by daughters, Sheila Galley and Wendy (Clarence) Benjamin, both of Mount Denson; grandchildren, Allen (Sherri) Galley, Amber (Peter) Hubley, Frank Spencer (Norma DeViller), Mitchell Spencer (Jenn Prager) and Amanda Benjamin (Wayne Reynolds); 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren; sisters, Elsie Hebb and Mildred (Bobby) Hebb, both of Lunenburg; brothers, Reggie (Judy) Lohnes, Bridgewater and Elmer (Judy) Lohnes, Wileville. Besides her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Arnold (2002); son-in-law, Bert Galley Jr.; brothers, Ralph and Raymond Lohnes. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Cremation has taken place with a private memorial being held at a later date.
