Obituary of Rodney Edward Burns

Please share a memory of Rodney to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our family is sad to announce the passing of Rodney, age 80, at his home in Ellershouse on Friday, February 25, 2022. Born in Dartmouth, he was the son of Lewis “Ted” and the late Edith (Collings) Burns. In addition to his father, Rodney is survived by his wife of 50 years, Celia (Yorke); children, Deidre (Kriss Hiltz), Neil, Nelson (Gina Macumber) and Melvin; grandchildren, Megan Rogers, Brianna Hiltz, Bethany Burns, Riley Hiltz; step-grandchildren, Amber, Ashley and Ian Swinamer; great-grandchildren, Elaina Goucher and Wyatt Rogers; sisters, Christine (Don Barkhouse) and Bonnie (Peter Cameron); as well as cherished nieces and nephews. Rodney spent three and a half years in the ministry, before marrying and starting his family. After a few years with various companies, he started Rods Machine Shop. He branched off into Metal Sales, developing Metals R Us and sold Rods Machine Shop to his son, Melvin. Rodney worked along with his employees in all of the endeavors he undertook. More recently he developed an interest in working on his land in East Uniacke. Although all of these ventures brought him satisfaction, his true joy in life was the time he spent with his family, especially his beloved grandkids and great-grandkids. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Regrettably, given current COVID-19 restrictions, in person attendance will be by invitation only and masks must be worn. There will be a webcast available on Rodney’s obituary page on the funeral home website listed below, that will be live at 1:55 p.m. on Monday, February 28. Interment will be held in Oakhill Cemetery, Ellershouse. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rodney may be made to the VON – Halifax, 7075 Bayers Rd, Suite 100, Halifax, NS B3L 2C2 (von.ca) or Hants Community Hospital – Palliative Care, 89 Payzant Dr., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0.
