Obituary of Jessie Avis Blanche Murphy

Please share a memory of Jessie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with sadness that we announce the quiet passing of Jessie on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born on January 10, 1926 in St. Croix, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Blanche (Matheson) Barker. Mom loved to dance, sing, play guitar, go to and host Jam Sessions at her home and bowling, which she did right up until the age of 91. She was happiest when she had all of her family around her, especially the little ones. She is survived by daughters, Linda Hennessy and Donna (Charlie) States; son, Blake Murphy; daughter-in-law, Joy Murphy; grandchildren, Michelle (Donnie) Crouse, Jaime (Chauna) Richardson, Holly Richardson (John Baker), Darlene Bachman (Gregory Morris), Justin States, Michael Murphy, Gregory Murphy and Peter (Angela) MacIvor; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; sister, Madeline Gilbert. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Murphy; daughter, Joan Richardson; son, Owen “Clary”; daughter-in-law, Marlene Murphy; sons-in-law, Wayne Richardson and John Hennessy; as well as five siblings. We would like to thank the Staff of Dykeland Lodge for the special care given to Mom during her stay and to the many friends who faithfully visited her at Dykeland, especially Keith and Frances Lowthers. To Mom’s granddaughter, Holly Richardson, thank you very much for being our family’s rock during this difficult time. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be a private family graveside service held in Ste. Croix Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jessie may be made to St. Croix United Church, 5477 Highway 1, St. Croix, NS B0N 2E0 or a charity of one’s choice.
