It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nellie-Jane Marshall. Nellie-Jane passed away unexpectedly at home, in Windsor, on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the age of 70. Born on November 20, 1950, in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Marie (Hogan) Marshall. Nellie-Jane graduated from Bridgetown Regional High School in 1968 before attending teacher’s college in Truro until 1970. She went on to become certified in teaching the mentally challenged and taught at Brookside Training Centre for Special Needs Children until 1974. She eventually moved closer to home and helped run her husband’s family farm in Paradise where they had three children. Through the years she worked as a caregiver for her own mother, a supervisor at Synergy Agri-Group and as a caseworker for Community Support Services. Later in life, she completed training as a Personal Care Worker and worked at the Adult Residential Centre in Bridgetown. Her most special job though was moving to Calgary, Alberta in 2014 to care for her first two grandchildren full time. In 2020, Nellie-Jane returned home to Nova Scotia to fully begin her much-deserved retirement in Windsor. Anyone that knew Nellie-Jane knew how much she loved her family and friends. She enjoyed everything from a rowdy kitchen party to a quiet coffee with loved ones. She was devoted to her grandchildren who gave her much joy in the last years of her life. She was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend and will be missed by so many. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca-Marie Fader (partner Randy) and Jodi-Jane Longley (partner Pete Davidson); son, Joseph Raymond Longley (partner Leanne Redden); brother, Donald (sister-in-law, Heather); sister, Gail Grover (brother-in-law, David); grandchildren, Braelyn and Saxon Fader, Owen Davidson and Nash and Easton Longley. Besides her parents, Nellie-Jane is predeceased by her brother, Neil Marshall (sister-in-law, Zelda). Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no service at Nellie-Jane’s request. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5657 Spring Garden Rd, Park Lane Mall, Level 3, Halifax, NS B3J 3R4 (902-423-7530).
