Obituary of Vernon Douglas Cross

Age 94, of Garlands Crossing, passed away Friday, October 15, 2021 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born July 2, 1927 in Bridgewater, he was the son of the late Ernest and Hattie (Arnburg) Cross. In his early years he served with the Merchant Marines. Vernon was a meat cutter for a brief period and then retiring after a long career as an Inspector with the Registry of Motor Vehicles. In retirement he could be found helping Pothier Motors with vehicle dealer trades. He was a Mason and 50-year jewel recipient of King Solomon Lodge No. 54, A.F. & A.M., Digby and was an adherent of Upper Vaughan Baptist Church. He is survived by his dear friend and companion, Dorothy “Dot” Shay, Garlands Crossing; nephews, Fred Conrad, Otokotoks, Alberta; James Conrad, Halifax and Terry Conrad, Liverpool; and great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Vernon was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (2008); and sister, Pearl Conrad. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A graveside service for family and friends will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, October 24 in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeview Crescent, Upper Vaughan, Rev. Terry Coldwell officiating. Please note: Masks and proof of COVID-19 double vaccination and identification required before entry to cemetery. Please bring a chair and/or an umbrella if you wish.
