Obituary of Hilda Hariett Murphy

Please share a memory of Hilda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 78, of Cheverie, died peacefully, with her family by her side, in Haliburton Place, Hants Community Hospital, Windsor on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. Born in Avonport, January 7, 1943, she was a loving daughter of the late Harry Elias and Jessie Mildred (Tracey) Schofield. Mom was the most caring, loving woman you’d ever want to meet. She was at ease striking up a conversation with a total stranger. She loved life, people, music, her annual August Potluck on her deck for friends and family, shopping, selling her cushions and most of all, her kids. Never once did she ever hang up the phone or walk out the door without kissing us and telling us she loved us. Mention road trip or restaurant and she was the first one in the car, especially loving her many trips to the states with Carter and Valerie. Always coming back with a new purse and watch, no matter how many times she was there. Having had many health problems from the day she was born, she never let it get in her way. She had two children to raise on her own and money had to be earned. She is survived by loving partner, Frank Rafuse; daughter, Bonnie (Brian) Wilcox; son, Carter (Valerie) Murphy; many chosen grandchildren and her precious cat, Milo; brothers, Roscoe (Ruth) Schofield; Harlen (Dorothy) Schofield; Joyce Swinamer; Linda (Jim) Schofield; Nancy Keeling and Charlton (Cathy) Schofield; several nieces and nephews. Besides her loving parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Vaughan; sister, Blanche Schofield; brothers, Arnold, Merton and Clint; brothers-in-law, Ross Keeling and Sonny Swinamer and sister-in-law, Yvonne Schofield. We would like to give special thanks to Northwood Homecare staff and Mom’s Haliburton Place family for all their loving care. Your kindness and love will never be forgotten. Also, special thanks to Bev Redden for always being there. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert Street, Windsor (902-798-8317). Due to current COVID restrictions, there will be a public graveside service held on Saturday, September 11 at 2:00 p.m. in Cheverie United Church Cemetery, 2093 New Cheverie Rd., Rev. Jeff Bursey officiating, assisted by Lois Brison-Brown. COVID-19 physical distancing guidelines must be respected and masks are required. If necessary, please bring your own chair and umbrella. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mom may be made to your local SPCA. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting: www.demontfamilyfuneralhome.ca
