Hack and I were pretty good friends in Austin. Then he did some work at my joint in Boulder. Free spirited, kind hearted and good fun man.

I'm very sad to hear of Alan's passing. He was one of my very best of friends, and known to me as "Hacker" I will never forget all the adventures and good times we had, and although we may have gotten a "wee' bit of trouble it was all in fun. I will never forget you for as long as I'm alive. God Bless you forever, your friend, Stephen Loughran, aka "Dutch". My condolences to the all of his Family...

It is certainly with sadness I have heard of Alan's passing. Hack had perhaps a bigger heart and more empathy for others than most people are even capable of. Indeed, as mentioned already he easily matched his enthusiasm and yest for life with a care for other people - exactly because he wasn't afraid to life life bravely as it is intended to be.
Alan, now it's your turn to act as a Shepard for those who hold their memories of you close to their heart.
To Alan's family and loved ones please accept my sincere condolences.

Never a truer or more loyal friend! Hack was indeed a legend! So many memories of younger, exciting and fun filled days together. Yet, the memories will remain in heart, life-long. Hack always said he wanted to make his mark on the world and he definitely did that, I’m sure beyond anything we could have imagined - enough for two lifetimes! It is a huge loss. Both Deb and I send our deepest sympathy to Karen and all the Scott family. We will be sharing in your sorrow in the days ahead. I, for one, will look forward to one day meeting up with Hack on the other side. God Speed my friend.

I am truly saddened by the loss of such an energetic soul d. I spend many a time at Dalhousie sharing a laugh and occasional beer while admiring Hack's ability to make the best of hard situations. We became close when I would let him sneak into the Life Sciences Building to escape his cold car during his first year at DAL, and have a good nights sleep. In the mornings he would be off to class and always looking for a way to gather funds to pay for school.
A truly remarkable person ,one of a kind and I hope I can say friend.I am sure Hack would tell us not to be sad ,since we will meet again.
Love you lots ,

We were fortunate to have the force of nature known as “Hack” enter our world in recent years as our neighbour. Hack grew quickly to be our good friend. We will fondly remember his many stories about travels, adventures and living life with gusto. We can honestly say, there was nobody else quite like him and we are grateful that we were pulled into his world. He was a true example of life lived to the fullest. Karen, we are so very sorry for your loss.
