Age 104, of Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, Hants County, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021 in Dykeland Lodge. Born July 13, 1916 she was a daughter of the late Terrance and Grace (Parker) Daniels. She was the last remaining member of her generation in the Daniels family. Growing up on the family farm in Windsor Forks she graduated from Normal School in Truro. Gladys taught school, for 32 years, first in Nova Scotia (South Rawdon, Dice Hill, Gaspereau, Baxters Harbor and Sherbrooke), later in British Columbia, Ontario and Quebec. While in Quebec she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Concordia University. In addition to her teaching career, she along with her husband, Pastor William Gummer, established the Eglise Chretienne D’Ahuntsic Pentecostal Church in Montreal. Through their joint efforts they aided in the establishment of both schools and churches in Haiti. Upon her retirement Gladys and her husband traveled extensively in both North America and Europe. In 1980 Gladys moved to Nova Scotia and was one of the original residents of the Gladys Manning Retirement Community, College Road, Windsor where she remained until 2014, when she moved to Dykeland Lodge. Active both personally and in the community, she wrote a book of poems “The Good Life” and contributed to community activities such as Women’s Institute and related church affairs. She was a member of the Glad Tidings Worship Center in Windsor. Gladys is survived by nephews, Terrance Daniels (Lela Gee), Windsor Forks; Robert Daniels (Brenda Hare), Windsor; niece, Lois (David) Gillis, Whitehorse, Yukon; numerous great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, William Gummer; stepson, William Gummer Jr. and brother, Charles Daniels. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of Dykeland Lodge for their exceptional care given to Gladys during the past years in which she resided at the home. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert Street, Windsor (902-798-8317). A private family graveside service will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, with Pastor Maria Sikal officiating. Masks must be worn and social distancing must be respected. No flowers by request.
