Obituary of Roger Ralph Freeman

Please share a memory of Roger to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 77, of Windsor, passed away on December 22, 2020, in Dartmouth General Hospital, with loving family by his side. Roger was born to the late Terence and Betty (Harvey) Freeman on June 12, 1943 in Chiswick, England, where his mother served in the British Royal Army Corps, and father was serving for the Canadian Army. Roger came to Canada with his mother, through Pier 21, when he was two years old as the Second World War was ending. Roger’s father returned shortly after to their home in Milton, where Roger grew up. Roger was always a great student with a sharp mind, and a good athlete that loved to play softball, bowl, and curl. Later in life, golf would become his favourite pastime. Roger completed his Bachelor of Engineering Degree from Acadia, and TUNS in 1966, and immediately began working for the Department of Transportation where he worked for 28 years before retiring in 1994. After retiring from DoT, Roger continued to keep his APENS designation and consulted for the Municipality of East Hants for many more years before completely retiring. In recent years, Roger truly enjoyed the Tuesday night “meetings” at Tim Hortons, spending time with his buddies at Avon Valley golf course, and watching Lily and Malcolm play basketball which he rarely missed. Roger will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Roger is survived by his son, Mark Freeman, Calgary, AB; daughter, Margo (Rob) Frost, Windsor; and his three beloved grandchildren, Nixon Freeman, Lily Frost, and Malcolm Frost. Besides his parents, Roger was predeceased by his sister, Joan Smith. Roger is also survived by former spouses and friends, Paula Freeman, and Jocelyn Fitzgerald. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation at Roger’s request. A private funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 30 in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Attendance is by invitation only due to current COVID-19 restrictions.
