Obituary of Gary Raymond Benedict
Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that our family announces his passing at age 74, of Three Mile Plains, on Tuesday, August 18, 2020. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Born June 21, 1946 in Windsor, he was a son of the late Frederick Raymond and Kathleen Agnes (Baxter) Benedict.
Gary was a hardworking family man with a heart made of gold. He retired from CKF Inc. as a welder and millwright after 31 years of service. He made many lifelong friendships during his time there. Welding was his craft, but he could build or fix just about anything. Gary often shared many stories of his time travelling on the gypsum boats in his younger years.
You could always find Gary surrounded by his friends or family. He always made sure you went home with a full belly and a smile on your face. He loved to cook and his homemade beans were one of the best anyone has ever tasted. If you were lucky enough, you got a dish to take home. Throughout the years he enjoyed playing lob ball, darts, washers, going to dances and gardening. He loved a good book and his crossword puzzles and most recently Facebook. Gary loved taking drives with his favorite companion, Sadie. Hunting and fishing were his passions, but most of all he loved sharing them with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. Many hours were spent sitting at the kitchen table sharing a meal, or a beer, telling stories about the good ole days or “the one that got away.” He will be forever missed by all who knew him.
He leaves behind Sadie, his beloved pet and companion; daughters, Jacqueline Benedict, Windsor; Cari (Rick) Allen, Sweets Corner; siblings, Sharon Benedict, Curry’s Corner; Gerald (Debora), Curry’s Corner; Brian (Vera), Curry’s Corner; Patricia Dearman, Windsor; Lynn (Carol), Three Mile Plains; Dawn (Curtis) McCulloch, Three Mile Plains; grandchildren, Nicholas and Shaelyn Allen; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by wife, Cathy (Flynn); sisters, Marilyn Symms, Gloria Gormley and Andrea Benedict.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert Street, Windsor (902-798-8317). A casual celebration of Gary’s life will be held Saturday, August 29 at 2 p.m. in Three Mile Plains Community Hall, 4474 Hwy. 1, Three Mile Plains, West Hants B0N 2T0.
