Obituary of Leonard Melvin Bonn

Please share a memory of Leonard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With sadness, we wish to announce the passing of our brother, Leonard Melvin Bonn, age 71, of Curry’s Corner on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. He was a son of the late Earl Blanchard and Mabel Dorothy (Cox) Bonn. Leonard enjoyed bowling, fishing, doing large puzzles, playing cards, watching movies and sports, especially hockey and curling. He was an avid gardener who, in the past, loved growing pumpkins and squash to see how much he could get them to weigh. Leonard had a love for music and playing his harmonica at different jams, seniors gatherings and for the nursing staff on Unit 500 during the COVID 19 Kitchen Party. Leonard worked for different construction companies as a heavy equipment operator. He also cut and sold firewood for many years. Leonard enjoyed every moment he spent with his family and friends. He had a good wit and sense of humour about him. He is survived by sisters, Mona Sanford, Hantsport; Linda (Doug) Patterson, Oromocto, NB; brothers, Kevin (Margaret), Windsor; Jimmy (Isabelle), Hilden; Gary (Heather), Waterville; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother-in-law, Danny Sanford. Many thanks to Dr. Matheson and the nursing staff, especially on Unit 500, at Hants Community Hospital for their kindness and compassion during Leonard’s long, lengthy illness. Also, special thanks to his nephew, Michael Bonn, for all his help and support over the years. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert Street, Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be a public graveside service on Saturday, July 25 at 11 a.m. in Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King St., Windsor, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. COVID-19 physical distancing guidelines must be followed. It is recommended that you wear a mask and if necessary, please bring your own lawn chair and umbrella. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leonard may be made to IWK Health Centre Foundation, 5855 Spring Garden Rd., Suite B220, Halifax, NS B3L 2C2; Windsor United Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 2037, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0; Canadian Cancer Society NS Division, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6 or your local food bank.
