Obituary of Danny Manson Sanford

Please share a memory of Danny to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 75, of Hantsport, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 4, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Windsor, he was a son of the late Morien and Pearl (Benjamin) Sanford. Danny was married to his loving wife, Mona for 54 years. He worked at CKF for 34 years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and playing the guitar. He bowled every Thursday night for many years as part of a league. His favorite baseball team was the Toronto Blue Jays and hockey team the Toronto Maple Leafs. Danny enjoyed spending time with his family at Whalen and Sunken Lakes, having a good ol’ game of lawn darts, washers and mini golf. He was very dedicated to his sobriety program and often driving people to many meetings in different towns on a daily basis. He was so proud of his 21 years of sobriety accomplishment. He was a kind man with a warm heart who always had a good story to tell, so if you wanted it to be kept a secret you didn’t tell Dan! Dan was a member of the Hantsport Lions Club for a few years. He was proud of his daughters and grandsons and his fur baby Skittles always brought a smile to his face. Danny is survived by his loving wife, Mona (Bonn); daughters, Sandra Montgomery and Sheri (George) Mercieca; grandsons, Joshua and Kyle Mercieca and Matthew Montgomery; brother, Eddie “Ed” (Shirley); sisters, Cora (Lee) Sherman and Dorothy (Carl) Hamilton; brother-in-law, David Stevens; sisters-in-law, Sharon and Judy Sanford; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Dan was predeceased by sisters, Julie Ann Sanford and Shirley Stevens; brothers, Gordon and Doug; niece, Carla Hamilton and son-in-law, Micheal Montgomery. Special thank you to NP Dawn Lowe and RN Mary-Ann, the palliative care team, especially Amber Phillips, VON nurses, especially Billie-Jo and to all the CBI homecare staff who all helped Dad remain home where he wanted to be. Also, we would like to give a special thank you to the amazing EMS Team (Brian and Sarah) for allowing us to be by our father’s side, taking all our stress away during his passing. You gave us the opportunity to be the daughter’s rather than the nurses. We are forever grateful for this gift. Thank you to all from the bottom of our hearts! Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert Street, Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be a public graveside service on Thursday, July 23 at 11:00 a.m. in Riverbank Cemetery, Riverbank Dr., Hantsport, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating.
