GERTIE HILTZ PASSES AWAY AT 106HILTZ, M. Gertrude "Gertie" - 106, Millville, Kings Co., formerly of Forties, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Cape Blomidon, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Mary (Legge) Pineo.Gertie was a long-time member of St. Augustine of Hippo Anglican Church, Forties. She was a devoted wife and mother, her family and in particular her children were first and foremost in her life. In her younger years Gertie loved to visit and go for drives. She enjoyed hours spent listening to her grandson-in-law, Wayne who would sing to her. Gertie was the last surviving member of her immediate family.Surviving are a son, Roy (Jessie Rechard), New Ross; daughters, Millie (the late Sam) Whiston, White Rock; Mary (the late Alfred) Ells, New Minas; Rena (Basil Hiltz) Roach, Millville; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husbands, Lindsay Roy Hiltz and Otis Abraham Hiltz; sons, Preston, Elliott, Wallace (the late Kathleen) and two sons in infancy; daughter, Flossie (the late Gordon) Ritchie; brothers, Emery and Johnie Swinamer; sister, Edna Brown.Arrangements have been entrusted to Bryce Johnstone of DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service (902-538-8317).  Visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m., Thursday in Morristown Community Centre, 16 Prospect Rd., Morristown.  A second visitation will take place from 12-2 p.m., followed by the funeral service at  2 p.m., Friday, October 19,  in St. Augustine of Hippo Anglican Church, Forties. Rev. Judi Phillips officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to any charity. A special thank you is given from the family to the Victorian Order of Nurses Home Care Staff for the excellent care and compassion shown to Gertie in her last years.
