Obituary of Garnet Leonard Underwood

Age 67, of Lockhartville, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2020 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with longtime partner, Judy Pitts, by his side. Born June 10, 1952 to Rennie (Tingey) Underwood, Garnet was raised by his grandparents, the late Owen and Lorena Underwood, as well as his special aunt, the late Phyllis Williams, who he had an undying love for. Garnet worked for over 30 years as an employee of CKF in Hantsport. He was also an avid musician and was a member of the band Chairmen of the Blues. Garnet had a great love for blues, rock and roll, and his beloved boxers. Besides his partner, Garnet is survived by sons, Gary Underwood (Michelle) and Corrie Beaton; stepchildren, Ed MacDonald and Melissa Benjamin; grandchildren, Lukas, Grayson and Alexis Underwood, Caelum and Kitara Benjamin and special grandson, Brandon MacDonald. Garnet was also very happy to get to know his siblings: sisters, Ann (Laverne) Parks, Three Mile Plains; Jean (Kenny) Lake, Avondale; brothers, Reid (Tina) Harvey, Scotts Bay; Robert (Jill) Harvey, Avondale; William Harvey, Alberta; Jamie (Nadine) Harvey, Alberta; and siblings, Bob Tingey and Alice Bugg, both of Manitoba. Besides his grandparents and aforementioned aunt, Garnet was predeceased by aunt, Vivian Oliver; uncles, Louis, Owen and Theodore Underwood. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert Street, Windsor (902-798-8317). Due to COVID-19, a celebration of Garnet’s life will be announced at a later date. A private family graveside service will also be held at a later date in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport.
