To the Whidden family,
We send our thoughts and prayers to the whole family. May you feel the prayers and know that we are thinking of you all and hope that you keep the many great memories close to you. Ron was a great supporter of our business, Golf Central, back when he was an avid golfer. He was a great story teller and always had time to share a few. I was able to have a few visits with him while he resided at Melville Heights.
Sincerely,
Mary and Roger Surette

My sincerest condolences to you, David, Paul, Jamie and Mark and to your families.
Your dad and your mom were part of the community in which I grew up and in particular they were good friends of my parents, Fran and Jim.
Though my interactions with your dad were limited, I certainly remember him as a kind and gentle man and someone who took pride in what he did. I still have paintings and prints that he framed and I recall his easy going manner and the care and attention to detail that he put into his craft.
My deepest sympathy to you all on your father’s passing.

David:
I would guess I met you for the first time about 55 years ago. Isn't it funny how time really does have the tendency to slip away? And, that people often seem to leave before we need, want or expect it?
So, I just wanted to let you know old friends are still friends. I hope you and your brothers are working through your pain at this time.
Take care,
David Simpson,

Our condolences to family and friends on Ron's passing.
"You got to know when to hold 'em , know when to fold 'em".
When Don and Ron spoke by phone a few short days ago they reminisced about the many years of mutual friendship including participation in one of the longest lasting social poker clubs in Halifax. Like that club, Ron indicated he was also ready to "fold 'em"
Don and Ron's association at the card table was only a small part of the relationship so valued and enjoyed over the years. Ron and his dear Joanie, ourselves, and the many other couples from this best of neighbourhoods came together on many occasions.
We've lost a good friend's presence but not the great memories we shared.

Dear David, Paul, Jamie, Mark and families,
We were so saddened to read of Ron’s passing.
We were fortunate to be his neighbors on Silverwood Terrace from 1996 until he moved into a senior’s home. He was one of the first people that welcomed us into the neighborhood. We always loved his visits and having the opportunity to chat with him. We witnessed his strength, love and devotion with his wife and your mother, Joan. His eyes truly lit up every time he spoke of her. He was always very proud of his family. He was such a great neighbor, always so kind and gentle. We often had long talks about life in general - family, pets etc. . We remember his well loved boxers Eddie and Quincy who he often brought by to play with our retriever.
It has been over a year since we visited Ron but we were both amazed at how well he was doing. He certainly had a long and productive life. We will certainly miss him but we are so thankful that we had him in our lives. He was the type of neighbor we all aspire to be.
Once again, our deepest sympathies are with you at this time.
Susan Charlton, Mike Waldron and family

David, Paul and Tanis, Jamie and Joan, and Mark:
It is always hard to lose a parent and sends rustles through the early foundations. But I am relieved Ron did not have to endure further diminishment. When I talked to him last week on his birthday, he commented on his many happy memories, still so solidly himself.
He and Joan were wonderful neighbours to us for decades and occupy a large space in our hearts. After Joan died, I would go down sometimes and chat with him about her, and he loved to talk about her. I specially love the story of the hayride where his hands were so cold, and she said, "Give me your hand." He described that warming of his hands as their beginning.
He and I used to talk jazz and photography too, but I confess I did not know about the sports teams! He was a good man.
