PALMETER, Arthur "Birt" L/CPL - 101, of Dyke Road, Falmouth, Hants Co., passed away Monday, December 12, 2011 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born October 12, 1910 in Northville, Kings Co., he was a son of the late Arthur "Emerson" and Maude C. (Armstrong) Palmeter.Moving to Falmouth with the family in his younger years, Birt became active in both Scout and Cub movements. As a leader of both groups he was head of several camping groups of boys for the Rotary Club of Windsor. He attended Falmouth and Windsor Schools. Birt served in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War with the Regina Rifle Regiment through France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Returning from overseas, he married and returned to his old job at Falmouth Fruit Company, where he spent 20 odd years. He was an avid gardener both in vegetables and flowers. Both he and his beloved wife, Doris (Sexton) spent their entire life in Falmouth.Birt is survived by his wife, Doris and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Isabel May Palmeter, RN and Minnie Lois (Mrs. Edwin Akin); brothers, LeRoy Armstrong Palmeter and Louvale Palmeter (died in infancy at 26 days old).Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral and Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor, (902-798-8317). The committal service will take place at a later date in Centre Falmouth Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff of Haliburton Place for the wonderful care provided to Birt.
