Obituary of Eleanor Maxine Caldwell

Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Age 91 of Hantsport. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our beloved mother on May 4, 2019, surrounded by her seven children and extended family members.

Born April 16, 1928, to the late Aileen and Murray Cochrane in Sweets Corner, Mum was a remarkable woman with a great sense of independence and capability throughout her entire life. She kept her great sense of humour, even during her last days. She was very well respected by all who knew and loved her. She was very proud of her large family and her home on School Street, where she lived for nearly seventy years. She spent many happy years at the CAMP beside the river in Bishopville. In later years, she enjoyed travelling, going on many trips with her close-knit friends known as “The Golden Girls”, and later with her companion, George, throughout Canada. She loved watching the Hantsport Shamrocks play ball from her deck which was affectionately known as the “Sky Box” and was usually filled with family and friends. She was a lifelong bingo player and, in recent years, she and Donnie played weekly tv bingo. She also enjoyed bowling, playing cards and following curling. She was an active member and past president of the Hantsport Elders Group. She retired from CKF Inc. after 26 years, where she enjoyed and respected the people and friendships she made while working there.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Donnie (Janet), Hantsport; JoAnne Vaughan, Greenwich; Kathy (John) Bishop, Greenwich; Bruce (Terry), Fall River; Curt (Beth), Hantsport; Heather (Harold) Bulger, Hantsport; Rob, Grand Pre; sister, Marion Mackenzie, Richmond, BC; brother, Graham (Sally) Cochrane, Edmonton, AB; grandchildren, Jackie Caldwell (Greg), Dartmouth; Wade Caldwell, Hantsport; Scott (Cindy) Vaughan, Aldershot; Mike Bishop (Jennifer), Falmouth; Jeff Bishop, Bridgewater; Tony (Setsu) Caldwell, Dartmouth; Andrea Caldwell, Musquodoboit Harbour; Carl Caldwell, Hantsport; Erin (Kenny) Higdon, New Albany; Matthew Bulger, Windsor; Mark Bulger, Hantsport; Evan Bulger (Kathleen), Sydney; Justin Caldwell (Shannon), Mount Denson; Tracie (Curt) Godfrey, Maple Ridge, BC; many great-grandchildren and several great great-grandchildren; and extended family, Phillip (Debbie) Scott.
