Obituary of Minnie Catherine Riley
Age 85, of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. Born in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Violet (Matheson) Aker.
Minnie worked at a young age as a cutter at Nova Scotia Textiles, Windsor for several years. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, raising two boys and providing care for other children. She loved spending time at the cottage on Panuke Lake with her family. Her other love in life was her church. A longtime member of St. Thomas Anglican Church, Three Mile Plains, she spent much of her time volunteering at her church for community events and was well known for her coconut cream pie and lemon squares. She was an active member of the church guild for many years. Her faith in God was unwavering. For the past few years she struggled with Alzheimer’s but even then, she remained a going concern. Minnie married her husband, Calvin Riley on June 24, 1950. Their marriage of 68 years was one filled with love and devotion.
She is survived by her loving husband, Calvin Roscoe Riley; sons, Jeff, and Jim (Noreen), all of Three Mile Plains; grandchildren, Morgan Riley (Colin), Saanich, BC; Jeremy Riley, Connor Riley, and their mother, Linda Riley, all of Falmouth; Jacklyn Whitehead Riley and her mother, Joan Whitehead, both of Three Mile Plains; sister, Juanita (Toot), Port Williams; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Minnie was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
The family expresses our deepest gratitude to the staff at the Meadowview Landing 4, Windsor Elms Village for their compassionate care of Mum over the past five months.
