Obituary of Ira Burton Hanes
Age 80, of Three Mile Plains, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 28, 2017, at the Hants Community Hospital, with his family by his side. Born on June 11, 1937 in Three Mile Plains, he was a son of the late Milton and Bertha (Whitehead) Hanes.
Ira loved his family, friends and nature. Dad had many jobs over the years, starting out with serving in the Canadian Army in 1957-1958. After receiving an honourable discharge, dad then worked in a brass shop making parts for hospital beds. After leaving the shop he worked a few more jobs, finishing his working career as a security guard for Kmart in Niagara Falls, Ontario for approximately 15 years before retiring and moving home.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Pamela (McLellan); son, William, Kingston; daughter, Petra, at home; brother, Lawrence, St. Croix; sisters, Gloria Hanes, Halifax; Ruby Woods, Calgary, AB; Marrian Johnston, Berwick; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Ira was predeceased by brothers, Reid (in infancy), Calvin, Raymond, John, and Garnet; sisters, Linden Phalen, Jennifer Hanes, and Blanche.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317).There will be no visitation by request. A graveside funeral service celebrating Ira’s life will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 7 in Ste. Croix Cemetery, Cemetery Rd., St. Croix, Rev. Tom Henderson officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ira may be made to Tim Horton Children’s Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
