Dear Joan, Dwight, Adrian, Gwen and families,
I know this is a sad day for all of you. There is and will never be any one else like Rolie. A man who did not let polio define who he was. If any thing I am sure it made him more determined to tackle whatever came his way with incredible strength, courage and determination. Through the days and months ahead rejoice in all the wonderful memories that each of you experienced with him and it will make the pain a little easier. There was no one quite like my Uncle Rollie. I was so proud to say that I was his niece. I can't remember a time when he wasn't in my life, and I can't imagine what it will feel like to go home this summer and not have him there to give me a hard time and to make me laugh. He was a ray of light in an often dark world and he showed me that disabilities are all a state of mind, not a life time sentence of limitations. I may be on the west coast, but my heart is on the east coast this week with all of you. Auntie Joan, your love and care of Uncle Rollie has been an wonderful example of what love is meant to be. He was such a lucky man to be loved by you. Dwight and Adrian, he was so proud of you both and loved you without question. His eyes always lit up when speaking of you boys and your families. Joan, I can't tell you how saddened we are to hear of Rolie's passing. We will always remember his gentle manner, positive attitude, and his wonderful sense of humour. He was indeed a man of many talents.
Our last memory of Rolie is from the late spring of 2013 when we were lucky enough to be able to stop by and visit with you when we were in the area. We have thought about both of you so often ever since. Roy also has so many great memories of Rolie's help and good advice on many occasions when we were fledgling farmers and your neighbours .
He will certainly be missed..... our deepest sympathy to you and the family.

My condolences to the family of Rolie. Rolie lived just up the road from me with his wife Joan, who I am related to as a Hazel. Rolie was always a ray of light when I saw him, despite his apparent obstacles, always maintaining his kindness and sense of humour, which was something I really admired. I am young, and so I have really only known Rolie during the last decade of his life, however I won’t forget him, and anyone else that has known him won’t forget either. I will fondly remember bumping into him at the Windsor exhibition every year, and visiting him and Joan on Halloween. Rest In Peace Rolie.

I'm sorry of hearing of Rolie's passing. The first time I saw him was in the arena with the Oxen. This past year I met him in person, while he stayed a short time on Unit 500. I met Rolie when I was just a little girl and he used to come over to Upper Falmouth, to visit his aunt and uncle, Hannah and John Croft...that was many years ago when we were both kids .

Rollie will be missed by many. The Halifax County Exhibition always welcomed Rollie as he arrived with his team of oxen. He was proud of his teams and gave both children and adults the opportunity to be close to oxen or become a teamster for a few minutes. We were also pleased that he led our parade for many years. The Halifax County Exhibition was proud to have Rollie as our 2008 Fair Person of the Year.
