PURDY, Joan Marilyn It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Joan Marilyn Purdy, at her home in Meadowview Landing in the Windsor Elms Village. Joan was born in Windsor on August 24, 1932 to the late Russell and Edna (DeWolfe) Marr. She is survived by daughters, Claire (Gordon) of Three Mile Plains, Cathy of Lower Sackville; son, Chuck of Three Mile Plains and sister-in-law, Leona Marr of Windsor and nieces Sherry Cox, Sackville; Teresa McDow, Beaver Bank; and nephew, Rick Marr, Three Mile Plains and their families. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Elinor (2014); brothers, Harold (2013) and his wife Betty (2016) and Keith (2000); nephew, David (1991). Mum was a well-liked school teacher having taught in various schools throughout Nova Scotia and Quebec, but spent the majority of her career until retirement, teaching at the Three Mile Plains Elementary School. She was also very active in both her community and Windsor United Baptist Church, including the Three Mile Plains Sunday School and Sunday School Auxiliary, TMP Community Hall Auxiliary, "Cookie" at Brownie camps, member of Windsor Community Choir and Baptist Church choir, Serving Seven WMS, UNICEF, Seniors Serving Seniors, and the Retired Teachers' Association. In 1999, she was the recipient of a certificate of recognition for Exceptional Volunteer Service for the Municipality of the District of West Hants. Special thanks to the "Angels" of Northwood Home Care, VON and Marina, Marianne and Joanne for making it possible for mum to remain in her home as long as she did. Special thanks to the Windsor Elms Village, especially those in Meadowview Landing for the exceptional care and compassion they gave to our mum during the 14 months she was there. We couldn't have asked for more! Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, April 16. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 17 in Windsor United Baptist Church, 411 King St., Windsor, Rev. Rob Heffernan officiating.
