COCHRANE, Owen Wellsley
Age 86, of Hants Border, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2015, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in East Chester, he was a son of the late Maudie Eleanor (Cochrane) Freeman.
Owen was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served as a peacekeeper in Germany. He was also a member of the Lucknow Branch No. 109 of the Royal Canadian Legion, Hantsport. Owen lived in Sudbury, Ont. for several years before moving home to Nova Scotia, where he owned and operated Cochrane's Grocery Store, until his retirement in 1987. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved his Toronto Blue Jays. Spending time with his grandchildren was a highlight of any day and enjoyed the special bond he had with each of them.
He is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Henshaw; sons, Laurie (Hazel), Melville, Sask.; Timothy (Audra), Hants Border; daughters, Susan (Ian Harvey), Falmouth; Tammy (Danny Redden), Hants Border; grandchildren, Christopher, Daniel, Joseph, Justin, Katie and Matthew; brother, George (Betty) Freeman, Greenfield, Queens Co.; granddaughter-in-law, Kathryn Boyd and step-granddaughter, Falon Brydon; several nephews, nieces and cousins. Besides his mother, he was predeceased by brother, Alfred Cochrane and sister, Juna Colbert.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation, by request. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 1 in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, Rev. Gary Manthorne officiating. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory of Owen may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia, 6331 Lady Hammond Rd., Halifax, NS B3K 2S2 or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5657 Spring Garden Rd., Halifax, NS B3J 3R4.
