Obituary of Gloria Jean Pemberton

Age 82, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2014 at the Abbie J. Lane Building, QEII, Halifax. Born in Scotch Village, Hants Co., she was a daughter of the late Danford and Abigail (Parker) Smith.Gloria was very loving and family focused. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was completely dedicated to her family. She was also very committed to giving back to her community and worked for 10 years as a driver and blood donor clinic volunteer for the Red Cross and then went on to work for 25 years as a nurse’s assistant at Fairview Villa, loving every moment she got to care for the elderly. She was notorious for her sense of humour and playing pranks she used to play and was a master joke teller. Gloria also loved animals, especially cats and dogs. Poodles were her favorite dog and she especially loved her Sam II.She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Allen, Halifax; son, Charles (Linda), Dartmouth; daughters, Rhonda Hennigar, Nine Mile River; Sharon Rutland, Halifax; grandchildren, Ian, Shawn, Joann, Jason and Tracey; great-grandchildren, Jessica, Hannah, Ken, Vince and Adyson; brother, Donald (Marg) Smith, Annapolis Royal. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by son-in-law, Ken Hennigar; brothers, Carl and Charlie; sisters, Isabelle "Belle", Heloise "Orie", Daisy and Regina.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). A graveside service for family and close family friends will be held Monday, August 4, at 2:30 p.m. in Hillview Cemetery, Sanderson Rd., Scotch Village, Rev. Garnet Parker officiating.
