Obituary of Laurenda Emma Croxen

Age 88, of Truro, formerly of Newport Station, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Thursday, July 17, 2014 in Cedarstone Enhanced Care Home, Truro. Born in Newport Station, she was a daughter of the late Percy and Winifred (Grey) Croxen.Laurenda was a woman with humor, courage and generosity. She was a member of Windsor Plains Baptist Church and loved gardening, singing, dancing and spending time with her family in which she adored sharing her childhood stories. Laurenda was the last surviving member of her immediate family.She is survived by her daughters, Beverly States (Gerald) Clark, New Glasgow; Joan Whitehead, Windsor; son, Primrose States, Halifax; grandchildren, Elias Downey, Eric Downey, Evelyn Downie, all of Toronto, Ont.; Corrina Brown, Calgary, Alta.; Courtney (Brown) Davison, Edmonton, Alta.; Jacklyne Whitehead-Riley, Windsor; six great-grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Laurenda was predeceased by her husband, Elias States; partner, Arnold Whitehead; children, Mona States (Whitehead) Brown, Blair States (Whitehead) and Deborah States (Whitehead); brothers, Ronald, Basil and Charles; sisters, Jean Johnson and Christina Neil.Laurenda’s family wishes to give thanks to the family's friends. Special thanks goes to Geraldine Brooks and Peter Preddle of Townsview Estates and the Staff at Townsview Estates and Ceadarstone for the wonderful care.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where visitation will be held Wednesday, July 23 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Larry Croxen officiating, assisted by Pastor Iona Crawley. Burial will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Donations in memory of Laurenda may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
