Obituary of Minnie Rebecca McLearn

Please share a memory of Minnie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Age 88, formerly of South Rawdon. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our sister, aunt, sister-in-law, cousin and friend on Thursday, May 22, 2014 in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born in South Rawdon on April 1, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Welton and Alice (Mason) McLearn.Minnie attended a one room school house in South Rawdon and continued her education at New Brunswick Bible Institute when she was in her 30's. Minnie was a member of the South Rawdon Baptist Church. She was a Canadian Cancer Society canvasser for many decades, a member and president of the South Rawdon Museum Society, a member of the Sons of Temperance Society and a member of the Women's Missionary Society. Although she spent much of her time caring for and entertaining her many nieces and nephews, including Quinten and Rupert who she helped raise, she found time for running the roads in her various vehicles, including a moped.  She had a flock of chickens most of her life and supplied many of her neighbors with farm fresh eggs. Minnie also had a very successful career selling Avon and won two trips, one being to Hawaii. She provided house-keeping services to many families who have stayed in contact over the years. She worked at the Motor Vehicle Branch in Halifax, at Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta and at her brother, Martin's farm in Saskatchewan. Her many adventures provided her with the stories she told in her later years. She is survived by her sister, Mabel Patterson; brothers, Archie (Dot), Martin and Eric; sisters-in-law, Doris and Donna; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by sisters, Etta and Inez; brothers, Warren, Stewart and Laurence; brothers-in-law, John Angus MacKinnon, Herman Parker and Lloyd Patterson. The family would like to thank Dykeland Lodge staff and Chaplain, Rev. Debra Mosher, for their compassionate care shown to Minnie and her family while she made Dykeland her home. Special thanks to Kathleen, Sharon and Doris who spent many long nights with Minnie, as well as the many family members who took turns staying during the day. Heartfelt thanks to Becky for seeing to all of Aunt Minnie's needs and appointments. Your compassion and kindness will always be remembered.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be a celebration of her life on Wednesday, May 28 at 2:00 p.m., in South Rawdon Baptist Church, Pastor Alex Mosher officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, followed by a reception in the Memorial Centre. Family flowers only.
