of Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Sunday, February 16, 2014 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Neil was a son of the late James and Edith (Johnson) Moore.Neil served 37 years with the Canadian Armed Forces Service Army, serving in many different capacities in many different areas around the world. His favorite posting was Germany where he served two tours. He also served several years for the RCASC and the Korean Conflict. Neil received the Order of Military Merit from then Governor General Sauvé. After retirement, he worked for the Corp Commissionaires for Corrections Canada. Neil was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch No. 009, Windsor and was a Past President. He took great pride in and will be remembered for his distinct voice that was a large part of the Windsor Remembrance Day services for many years. He was a member of the Windsor Gyro Club also a Past President and was a Past District Governor. He was also a member of the Senator’s coffee group. Neil was an avid community worker and loved supporting and giving back to his local area. He loved the challenge of a crib game and following daily topics of current events.Neil is survived by his wife, Darlene; children, Steve (Janet), Vancouver, BC; Andrew (Kathy), Calgary, Alta.; Susan (Roddie) Warren, Charlottetown, PEI; Adrian (Inez), Windsor; Jason (Lori), Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Dylan, Amy and Jared Moore; Michael and Kathlyn Warren; Amelia, Edward and Parker; mother-in-law, Grace Archibald, Windsor; sister-in-law, Norma Moore, Fredericton, NB; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, John, Frank and Gilmore; sister, Betty Taylor and his beloved four legged companion, Spencer.Special thanks goes to his caregiver, Maria; Gladys Manning Staff; Dr. Cathryn Smith and Dr. Mark Kazimirski and the Staff of Hants Community Hospital for their compassion and care.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch No. 009 will conduct a tribute service at 6:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 9 p.m. on Thursday, February 20. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m., Friday, February 21, in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bill Gibson and Father Michael Walsh officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Center. Private family burial will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. Donations in memory of Neil may be made to the Lung Association Nova Scotia, 6331 Lady Hammond Rd, Halifax, NS B3K 2S2 or a charity of one’s choice.
