Age 58, of Three Mile Plains, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Saturday, December 28, 2013 in Hants Community Hospital in Windsor, surrounded by family and friends after a difficult battle with cancer. Born in Lindsay, Ont., she was a daughter of Dennis and Grace (Shields) Burke.Nancy was a very soft-hearted, caring woman, who always put others needs before her own. Nancy excelled at cooking but also had many other passions, including camping, travelling, gardening, being outdoors, painting, sewing, but most of all ladybugs. She collected ladybug themed items that could be found all throughout her home. She even nicknamed her first granddaughter "ladybug." Nancy was devoted to her husband, John and felt like her life didn’t begin until she met him. She was a beautiful happy bride, and sewed all of her own bridesmaid dresses and wedding dress herself. She loved her family and grandchildren deeply and her best friend, Jeanie. Nancy and Jeanie loved to travel together to exotic places. They called each other sisters from different mothers. Nancy was a hair dresser by trade and graduated from Algonquin College in Ottawa. She loved cutting and styling hair, demonstrating an exceptional artistic ability and was amazing at hairdressing. In her later years, Nancy switched careers and became an administrative assistant, carrying on her excellent work ethic, for League Savings and Mortgage in Halifax.Nancy will be missed by her husband, John; sons, Tommy (Crystal) Yeomans; Jason (Meagan) Grant; Jeff (Marilyn) Grant; parents, Dennis and Grace Burke; brother, Danny Burke; sisters, Denise (Paul) Northey and Tracy (Jim) Campbell; grandchildren, Brea, Thomas, Ben, Charlie, Talon, Ashton, and Jack.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, January 2, 2014. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2014, in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Center. Burial will be held at a later date.
