71, passed away peacefully at his home in Scotsburn, Pictou County, on November 30, 2013.Born in St. Croix, Fred attended Hants West Rural High School and it was there he met the love of his life and wife of 43 years, the late Jean DeMont (nee McNeil). The pair settled in Chester Basin and later in Chester where they raised their son, Gregory. In 2006, Fred and Jean moved to Scotsburn to be closer to their cherished grandchildren, Madison and Jake.Fred worked as a linesman at Nova Scotia Power for 33 years. In his free time, he loved gardening, woodworking and camping. He understood the art of lighting a good campfire and he shared that skill with his son, nieces, nephews and grandkids on camping trips all over the Atlantic Provinces. He was always kind and generous to all who knew him. Fred was predeceased by his wife Jean, his parents, Fred Sr. and Hattie (Heisler) DeMont and sister, Margaret. He is survived by son, Greg (Jill); grandchildren, Madison and Jake; sisters, Barbara (late Kenneth) Barkhouse, New Glasgow; June (late Karl) MacDougall, Ellershouse; Rosemary (late Lewis) Mosher, St. Croix; Beverley (Harold) Fletcher, Ellershouse; Sherrill Hardy (Mack Hirtle); Glenna (Jim) Dempsey, Mount Uniacke; Celesta DeMont, Windsor; brother Reuben (Betty) DeMont, Windsor; brother-in-law, Wayne Williams; many nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 5, Rev. E.E. Hill officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Private family interment will be held in Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix.
